SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Scottsdale police say a 12-year-old boy is suffering life-threatening injuries after a pickup truck hit him Monday morning.
Officer David Pubins with Scottsdale police said the collision happened around 9:15 a.m. at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and Thompson Peak Parkway.
The boy was riding his bicycle northbound through the crosswalk at the intersection when the light was green for north-south traffic, Pubins said.
That’s when the 49-year-old male driver of the white Ford pickup truck was turning left from southbound Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, Pubins said.
As he was making the turn, Pubins said the pickup truck struck the boy.
The boy was reportedly not wearing a helmet and was taken to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Pubins said he suffered multiple head fractures and a broken leg.
The driver of the pickup truck will be issued a citation for the collision, Pubins said. Impairment was not a factor.
Eastbound Frank Lloyd Wright was temporarily closed due to the incident.
