PHOENIX - The Arizona Secretary of State announced the couple was indicted for voter fraud and stressed that the state has a zero-tolerance policy on influencing elections.
Peter Canova and Gina Thi Canova were charged on Friday with 15 counts of voter fraud, said spokesman Matthew Roberts for the Arizona Secretary of State.
Roberts said these counts included false registrations, illegal voting and filing false instruments.
The violations are class 5 and 6 felonies and each count is punishable by up to 2.5 years in prison.
According to news release, Peter and Gina Canova both face charges of voting more than once in a single election by casting their ballots in the November 4, 2008 general election in Maricopa County, Ariz. and Douglas County, Nev.
Arizona has joined with more than a dozen other states to exchange voter registration and voter history information to keep voter rolls accurate, Roberts said.
In a news release, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennet stressed that his office will not tolerate those seeking to influence elections.
