SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Cold and wet weather on Sunday dampened a national soccer tournament held in Scottsdale.

"It's not as nice as it is in Seattle, but it's close," said one parent from Washington, making fun of the unusual Arizona weather of grey skies and blustery winds.  She even donned a winter ski coat and gloves to watch her son's game.

Clair Nutter's daughter played in an afternoon game under the same conditions.  Nutter wore a winter coat that streched all the way to the gound to protect against Sunday's chilly winter weather.

The national soccer tournament is one of the biggest in the nation, with hundreds of teams from across the country, many of them from cold weather spots like Seattle, Chicago, and Minnesota.

The kids enjoyed their Valley stop for soccer, while their parents felt cheated out of a weekend of fun in the sun.

"Oh we were really hoping for sun, but we know Arizona will bring it back," said another mother watching her son on the sidelines.

"Last year it was 75 degrees," said tournament director Mark Lowe. "You feel so bad like you cheated people, but you have to remember you can't do anything about it."

Because of the weather, the tournament has cancelled games, postponed them and even played a few with only penalty kicks to decide the match.

The semi finals will be held Monday.  Players and parents making it that far are hoping for a least a little more sun.
