PHOENIX - Police arrested a 27-year-old mother after she allegedly drove drunk and high on drugs with her 3-month-old baby inside her van in Phoenix.

Police said they received several calls Tuesday evening about a female driving a minivan erratically with a small baby inside.

Phoenix police officers found Jessica Thorpe of Scottsdale near Peoria and 25th avenues passed out outside her locked van with the infant inside.

A security guard was doing his rounds at that location when he noticed Thorpe asleep next to the van in the parking lot.

The guard told police he looked in the van and noticed the baby inside. The guard opened the van door and found the baby had labored breathing, a wet diaper, and was very hungry.

Police estimate the 3-month-old was inside the car for about an hour.

Police reports state Thorpe told police she had been drinking beer and had taken Valium and Prozac.

Police said the baby is in good condition and is staying with the father.

Thorpe is facing child abuse charges.
