SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The new ABC show "Combat Hospital" aired Tuesday night and it's a lot like the scenes from the Scottsdale Healthcare Military Training Center.
The $1.6 million facility has helped train 350 healthcare experts from all military branches, showing them the ugliest sides of war, from bullets to burns.
“It’s good training,” said Capt. Shirley Roberts from the U.S. Air Force. “It takes some of the 'can I do this?' out of the situation.”
The simulations they showed us on Tuesday included a man down in a combat zone and a crew of half a dozen rushing to help him.
They put him on a stretcher and quickly carted him to a hospital area for immediate help.
The crew treats everything like a real situation. It isn’t hard when you consider the dummy they are working on isn’t your ordinary dummy. He can talk, blink, bleed and even breath.
“His chest rises and falls, he has a pulse in the right places of the body so we can do proper treatments,” describes training coordinator Vance Nesbit.
The program also includes level one trauma and disaster training in case of serious civilian situations.
