SCOTTSDALE, AZ - A brand new, FDA-approved aesthetic procedure called Liposonix promises to help you lose one dress size in one hour with one treatment.

The non-surgical, no downtime "alternative to liposuction" is shown to take inches off women and men.

We all have that one problem area that no matter how hard you diet or exercise it just won't go away.

“I can't call it baby fat anymore because he's 5,” said Traci Lee, a Liposonix patient.

Bouncing back after delivering baby No. 2 proved to be much more difficult than Lee realized.

“I've been working out for the better part of 20 years and it was something I couldn't get off,” she said.

But it is something Dr. Susan Van Dyke says she can take off.

Liposonix is a one time treatment that uses the power of ultrasound technology to target and destroy fat cells that sit right underneath the surface of the skin.

“You're melting a layer of fat. These cells are being killed in this layer and reabsorbed by the body slowly over several months after the procedure,” said Van Dyke, a board certified dermatologist.

But don't expect immediate results.

“It was about a month where I started feeling, 'Oh, I think this is working.'  But definitely that three to four-month mark, I really noticed a big difference,” Lee said.

Liposonix got FDA approval last year and is primarily used on your stomach and love handles.

“This has to do with the roll you can grab. It's that softness on top of the muscle,” said Van Dyke.

Van Dyke Laser & Skin is the only center in the Southwest offering the procedure.

“You're going to get a smaller waistline. The clothes are going to fit better,” Van Dyke said.

Liposonix doesn't replace liposuction, which Van Dyke calls “the gold standard.” But  she warns, just like with liposuction, you shouldn’t expect to lose any weight with Liposonix.

“It's almost like taking off a heavy sweater. You're smaller. You didn't lose 20 pounds, but your clothes fit better,” Van Dyke said.

Does it sound too good to be true? Just wait until you hear what else Liposonix can do.

Van Dyke said research shows the procedure inadvertently triggers the body to produce more collagen, which tightens and firms the area of the body that's being treated.

If there's enough fat, Van Dyke said it can most likely be treated with Liposonix. Beyond that, the potential uses for the procedure are endless.

We wanted to know: Does it work on cellulite?

“You know, that's the next one. You're way ahead of us, absolutely. Because we've already done a number of thighs and incidentally, we have seen the cellulite on the thighs goes away,” Van Dyke said.

We’ll keep you posted as Van Dyke completes that medical procedure.

Liposonix will set you back anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand, depending on how large an area you want to treat.

The procedure works with one treatment, but you can go back as many times as you want, until you reach the desired result.
