SCOTTSDALE, AZ - The night was over almost before it began for supporters of JD Hayworth on Tuesday.
The crowd of about 100 people crammed inside a ballroom in a Marriott in north Scottsdale watched the abc15.com webcast and the race numbers that rolled in just after 8pm. They showed Hayworth's opponent John McCain with a huge lead.
The crowd booed and yelled while John McCain spoke after winning the race. Some called him "liar" and said "go back home" referring to his time spent in Washington D.C.
Hayworth took to the podium at 9:15pm, thanked his family and his supporters. He also asked them to abide by the results and to keep up the fight. "It's a fight worth having," he told them.
Hayworth made no mention of his future plans, but left the room to cheers of "JD, JD" with his family by his side.
