Golf balls drop from sky to benefit Arizona USMC Wounded Warriors and Wounded Wear

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - It wasn’t rain, but golf balls falling from the sky in Scottsdale Wednesday afternoon.

Three thousand golf balls were dropped from a helicopter at the Camelback Inn Golf Club .

Each ball represented a $20 donation to benefit Arizona USMC Wounded Warriors and Wounded Wear, which donates free clothing to those who have been hurt while serving.

“Right now in Arizona alone, I have over 70 Marines that I’m assisting,” Master Gunnery Sgt. Steve Soha said. “But, that truly means there are probably about 700 that I don’t know about.”

Donors were given a numbered golf ball to have dropped. If their ball ended up in the hole, they won a free, all inclusive trip to Hawaii courtesy of JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort and Spa.

“It’s just a thank you, a real big thank you and an acknowledgment to them and what they’ve done and what they do for our country and what they do every day,” Camelback Inn Golf Club Director of Sales and Marketing, Shane Allor said.

The program is part of the Camelback Ladies Gold Invitational, an all-women event at the Camelback Inn Golf Club.

“When the check is written the Camelback ladies golf club is going to change the lives for a lot of wounded warriors here in Arizona,” Sgt. Soha said.
