MESA, AZ - A number of people were evacuated Sunday morning after three mobile homes caught fire in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian community.
Captain Danny Ables of the Scottsdale Fire Department said crews from Scottsdale, Mesa and Tempe responded to a mutual aid request from the Salt River Fire Department regarding a working fire near E. McKellips and Hawes Road.
Salt River Fire Chief David Bunce said one home was completely destroyed and two others were damaged in the morning blaze. Crews received a fire call around 7:30 a.m.
The fire started in one home, said Bunce, and spread to two homes on either side. All residents were safely evacuated and no one was injured.
Three streets lost power as a result of the fire and residents were instructed to go to the subdivision's community center, according to Bunce.
Most residents had their power restored by Sunday evening, however, 24 units were still without power.
