PD: Student stabbed at Boulder Creek High School in Anthem

ANTHEM, AZ - One student was taken to a local hospital after being stabbed at Boulder Creek High School in Anthem Thursday.

Officer James Holmes with the Phoenix Police Department said a 16-year-old male received a superficial injury, but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Heidi Vega with the Deer Valley Unified School District said the following information was given to parents though a phone notification Thursday:

Shortly before 11 a.m. today, two students were involved in pencil fighting horseplay. One student stabbed another student with a small pocket knife after they were sword fighting with pencils. The injured student went directly to the nurse’s office. On campus security responded immediately and the offending student was taken into custody by Phoenix Police Department. The injured student received a less than 2-inch wound but was transported to John C. Lincoln Hospital as a precaution by the Daisy Mountain Fire Department.

This isolated incident was dealt with swiftly and all students continued in their classes. We want to share this information with you to dispel many rumors and ask you to talk to your children about the consequences of impulsive actions.  The school and district administration will follow the process and procedures as outlined in the Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook. Classes continue tomorrow.

Vega said a Security Resource Officer, who is an off duty police officer, is on campus as usual and classes are in session.

Holmes said the parents of the victim have declined prosecution.

The school has not had any problems or other disturbances, said Vega.
