PHOENIX - The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is using its Memorial Fund to help raise money for the family of Deputy William Coleman, who was killed in the line of duty over the weekend.
Deputy Coleman, 50, was shot and killed after responding to a burglary call at an Anthem strip mall early in the morning Sunday. He is survived by a wife and two young children, ages 4 and 7, as well as grown children who live in another state, according to the Associated Press.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio presented the family of the 20-year veteran with a check for $25,000 and there will be several opportunities for members of the community to help raise additional funds.
If you eat at Wendy’s fast food restaurants in Anthem on Thursday, your money will go toward the cause. The chain will be giving 20 percent of its sales that day to the Coleman family.
On Monday, Ocho Locos Mexican Restaurant in Anthem will be donating 20 percent of its sales to the family.
Also on Monday, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Fighters will face off in a benefit hockey game at Jobing.com arena at 6 p.m. to raise funds for the family.
The department will be selling T-shirts, collecting donations and hosting a raffle.
