1 killed in I-17 crash north of Phoenix

ANTHEM, AZ - One person is dead and traffic is being diverted after a collision on Interstate 17 near Anthem that occurred at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety Duty Office said that a vehicle crossed over from southbound Interstate 17 to northbound Interstate 17 at milepost 231.

The vehicle then caused a collision, killing one person.

A total of four vehicles were involved in the resulting crash, and four other people were taken to local hospitals with injuries.

The northbound roadway was closed for investigation and cleanup but reopened about 9:45 p.m.
