YUMA, AZ - The Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma has received its first F-35B fighter plane.

Station officials say the new tactical fixed-wing plane arrived Friday afternoon.

The Marine Corps will be using the F-35B to replace an aging fleet. With short takeoff and vertical landing abilities, the planes will be used for everything from combat support missions and maritime readiness worldwide.

Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Jeffrey Scott says Friday's delivery of the first F-35B marks a milestone for the Marine Corps and the country.

Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 is the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing's first F-35 squadron. Based at the Yuma air station, officials say it's the first operational F-35 squadron in the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense.
