YUMA, Ariz. - A former band teacher at Yuma's Castle Dome Middle School has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for having an ongoing sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student.
The Yuma Sun reports 30-year-old Jessica Coz was also sentenced to supervised probation for life and must register as a sex-offender.
Coz pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted sexual contact with a minor in a plea agreement with prosecutors on Dec. 16. Other charges including sexual conduct with a minor and were dropped.
Coz was the school's band director and also taught private trombone lessons.
Coz was arrested in April after the victim's family called Yuma police. The boy was 13 years old at the time of the first alleged sexual encounter and has since turned 14.
