UA fraternity house shut down due to hazing, misconduct

TUCSON, AZ - A fraternity at the University of Arizona that has been a campus fixture for more than 60 years has had its charter revoked.
The local chapter of Phi Kappa Psi was shut down by the fraternity's national headquarters over numerous allegations of hazing and of lying to try to cover up wrongdoing.
The Arizona Daily Star says the hazing claims included cases in which minors were encouraged to abuse alcohol and incidents of pledges being subjected to sleep deprivation by holding early-morning activities on the heels of late-night activities.
The UofA chapter was founded in 1947 and was one of the largest and oldest in the country.
Phi Kappa Psi officials say problems at the UofA chapter reached the point where action had to be taken.
