HAYES TOWNSHIP, MI - Authorities in northern Michigan are investigating the apparent drowning of an Arizona man.
The Charlevoix County sheriff's department says authorities got a call Saturday evening of a body washing up on the shore of Lake Charlevoix in Hayes Township. The 27-square-mile lake is in the northern Lower Peninsula, about 40 miles northeast of Traverse City.
Sheriff W.D. Schneider identifies the victim as 56-year-old Philip Boal of Tucson and says he was swimming with family members a few hours earlier.
Schneider says an autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.
