DOUGLAS, AZ - A Customs and Border Protection officer was nearly stabbed as a U.S. citizen was re-entering the country from Mexico at the Douglas port-of-entry Thursday afternoon.
The Border Patrol says officers were screening pedestrian traffic when a man pulled a knife from his pocket and attempted to stab the officer.
Border Patrol officers said they noticed the man kept his hands in his pant pockets.
When he was told to show his hands, authorities say he stepped toward an officer, removed his hands from his pocket and attempted to stab the officer with a knife.
The border officer blocked the stabbing attempt. Afterward, officers took the 18-year-old from Willcox into custody.
The man, whose name was not released, was handed over to Cochise County law enforcement and was booked on assault on a federal officer.
