COOLIDGE, AZ - Police confirmed with ABC15 that a bullet hit an officer in the face Saturday night in Coolidge.

Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney said the incident started around 8:19 p.m. when a Coolidge police officer tried to stop a station wagon for speeding.

The station wagon stopped at a service station and as the officer approached the car, the driver sped off through a field.

Officers pursued the car until the driver stopped and dropped off three people near Congress and Washington Avenue.

The officer detained the three people and the driver sped off.

Police were able to find the vehicle, and when they tried to stop it, the driver struck a gas meter and a chain link fence.

One of the officers fired a round into the rear tire of the car to keep the driver from taking off again.

The bullet ricocheted after striking the rim of the tire and hit one of the other officers in the cheek.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries and was released Saturday night.

The driver of the car Korrin Harmon, 34, of Florence, surrendered to police and was taken into custody. Gaffney said Harmon admitted to police he is currently on parole and has always run from police since he was 15 years old.

Harmon has a past history of drug offenses, felony flight, and theft.

Authorities said he was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for numerous counts of aggravated assault and endangerment.
