PINAL COUNTY, AZ - Officials are investigating a reported double homicide after two men were found dead in Pinal County on Sunday night.
Lieutenant Tamatha Villar with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said a man called authorities around 8 p.m. to say he and a friend had been shot in the area of Interstate 8 and milepost 150.
Deputies responded to the scene and found the two men dead, according to Villar.
Villar said that information is limited, however the location of the scene is a primary corridor for human and drug smuggling. “It’s not completely unexpected given the volatility,” said Villar.
This is the same basic location where a deputy was shot by human smugglers last month.
During the man’s call on Sunday night, he reportedly said he knew he had been shot in the same area the deputy had been shot because he had seen it on the news.
Villar also said at least one weapon was recovered at the scene.
