Residents in Globe are being asked to boil their water after a city well tested positive forĀ E. coli.
City officials said Monday that the contaminated well is one of six in the area. The well is shut down while further tests are being sent to a lab.
Interim City Manager Cynthia Seelhammer says all water in the city is treated with chlorine. Residents are being asked to boil thier water for 1-3 minutes before drinking it. The boil-water mandate is Arizona Department of Environmental Quality protocol.
Officials said to contact your veterinarian if you have questions about providing water to household pets without boiling the water first.
Seelhammer says the results could be caused by a number of factors including bacteria on of the testing agent's hands or contaminated testing material.
Notices were sent to to all customers within 24 hours of learning of the positive sample.
City officials said the water is being retested and the results should be available by Wednesday morning.
