Employees and visitors were briefly evacuated to the Arizona side of the Hoover Dam after a driver failed to stop at a checkpoint.

Authorities say the unidentified man peacefully surrendered after realizing he was unable to get out.

Bureau of Reclamation spokeswoman Rose Davis says that after driving through the check point on the Nevada side Tuesday evening, authorities raised a barrier trapping the man between a SWAT truck and the barrier.

The Arizona Republic says the driver attempted to turn around, but had nowhere to go.

He then came out of his vehicle and surrendered unarmed.

Davis says all operations were back to normal about an hour later.

She says it's unclear clear at this time if the man will face federal or state charges.
