SONOITA, AZ - A Sonoita couple who thought their visiting grandchildren were up early instead found a bear cub on a feeding frenzy in their kitchen.
Phil Volk says the cub was eating its way through the kitchen when he spotted it early Thursday. It finished off a chocolate cake on the counter. Then it went through the trash can before finding the pantry. Chips, bread and jelly beans were next.
The bear hissed at Volk and then took refuge in a bedroom.
Volk tells the Arizona Daily Star his wife urged him to call 911. An Arizona Game and Fish spokeswoman says an agent tranquilized the 30-pound cub and took it to the Heritage Park Zoo in Prescott because its mother was nowhere to be found.
