ARIZONA CITY, AZ - A fight during a Super Bowl party in Arizona City on Sunday led to the shooting death of a man visiting from California, authorities said.
Pinal County Sheriff's spokesman Elias Johnson said 34-year-old Walter Williams of Fresno, California died of a gunshot wound to the neck.
Williams' girlfriend told deputies they were in town visiting Walter's long-time friend, 34-year-old Damian McDowell, and watching the Super Bowl with several other people when the two men began to argue.
McDowell went to a back bedroom where he picked up a handgun, returned to the kitchen to confront Williams again and fired one shot, killing Williams. Johnson said several witnesses saw and heard the entire altercation.
McDowell said, "I'm going to jail" and fled the scene with the weapon but returned while deputies and detectives were still on the scene.
McDowell was placed under arrest and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on a charge of first-degree murder.
Johnson said the argument was not related to the game itself.
