TUCSON, Ariz. - Multiple drug seizures over the weekend by Border Patrol agents led to the recovery of $2.2 million worth of pot and the arrest of three suspected smugglers.
A Border Patrol news release says agents working in the western Arizona desert early Saturday recovered more than 1,900 pounds of pot worth $961,000. Agents also arrested three Mexican nationals suspected of smuggling narcotics.
Sunday night, Casa Grande agents seized 16 backpack bundles of marijuana weighing more than 800 pounds with an estimated worth of $436,000.
Early Monday, Ajo agents seized a total of 1,600 pounds of marijuana. A Jeep Grand Cherokee was found abandoned in a remote western Arizona desert area with 86 bundles of marijuana weighing 1,093 pounds. The narcotics, worth an estimated $546,500, and the Jeep were seized.
Another 524 pounds of pot was dumped off by smugglers and recovered. It's worth approximately $262,000.
