MARICOPA, AZ - A Maricopa man and his 26-year-old son were arrested after allegedly threatening a group of young people at a park Monday night.

According to Maricopa police, officers responded to a call of a man with a gun near John Wayne Parkway and Palo Nuez Street around 5:45 p.m.

Police were told the situation started with a confrontation between several youth, including the older man's 16-year-old son.

Angelo Abruzzese, 53, and his 26-year-old son Anthony Abruzzese returned to the park with the younger son and approached several people, including one of the subjects who initially wanted to fight the 16-year-old, police said.

During the confrontation the father tried to intervene on his son's behalf and when other subjects became involved Angelo brandished a handgun, pointed it and threatened to shoot them, according to police.

The father and two sons left the park when a witness threatened to call police.

The two older men were taken into custody at their home without incident.

Angelo and Anthony were both booked into the Pinal County Jail on nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
