MARICOPA, AZ - A Maricopa family received a free pool fence Tuesday after a family pet died in the pool.
Fulton Homes will continue to give away free fences to a family every week through July 12th.
The Fulton Homes pool fence giveaway is held annually at the start of summer to raise awareness and protect families from tragedy.
To be considered, you may nominate yourself or someone else. The deadline is July 4th. Participants must write a letter explaining why they should receive a free pool fence.
According to Fulton Homes, Susan Lake and her family were chosen because of their need. Their dog died when it fell into the pool. Lake is concerned about what could happen to her four children.
Her youngest child, Riley, is 5 years old. Lake wanted to build a pool fence for added protection but Riley has a medical condition that has left the family with costly medical bills.
Friends thought the Lakes deserved a pool fence and nominated them. They were chosen last week and the fence was built Tuesday.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been eight drownings and 15 near drownings in Arizona this year.
Fulton Homes has three more fences to donate. Find out more about Fulton Homes.
