MARICOPA, AZ - A tire fire that sparked at a rubber recycling plant in April reignited Saturday due to gusting winds.
Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Brad Pitassi said the original fire was buried beneath layers of dirt after sparking April 11, and continued to burn underneath.
Saturday's strong winds reportedly blew away the dust capping the fire, exposing and reigniting the blaze.
Pitassi said these types of tire fires can burn for years, smoldering under layers of dirt.
Crews are currently in the process of recovering the flames with more dirt.
