FLORENCE, AZ - Authorities say a body found in a vehicle down a Gila County canyon earlier this week is that of a missing Apache Junction man.

Jeffrey Block, 58, was reported missing late last month along with his dog, Blue.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Block's truck was discovered at the bottom of the Salt River Canyon off US 60 at milepost 295 on Wednesday.

Block's family reported him missing after he failed to return home from a trip to Show Low on July 25.

The last anyone heard from him was a phone call made around 3 p.m. to his father to say he would not be able to make a 5 p.m. dinner they had scheduled.

Cell phone service dropped out and Block was not heard from again.

The sheriff's office said Block's dog was also identified and recovered deceased from the scene.
