BLACK CANYON CITY, AZ - Authorities believe the shooting of a gas station employee in Black Canyon City was accidental.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office says its preliminary investigation has found that the attendant's pistol became dislodged from its holster, fell to the ground and fired accidentally once the weapon landed.
The round that was fired from the gun struck the Rock Springs Cafe Gas Station attendant in the head.
The attendant survived the shooting but was unable to speak with investigators when they went to interview him.
Still, he gave them a thumbs-up confirming the circumstances of his injury when investigators presented their theory on shooting.
Investigators say other factors backed up the attendant's account.
The employee was found on Sept. 14 lying on the station's floor, bloody and semi-conscious.
