Is the internet now too big and too important to have nobody overseeing it?

According to businessweek.com , they say the internet has become a global phenomenon and needs to be managed to a world wide standard.
Critics fear a loss of internet freedom.
On Thursday, a group of U.S. lawmakers called on Congress to pass a resolution against the plan.
