A 5th grader was recently told he couldn't give a speech in favor of gay marriage for a school competition in New York.

Kameron Slade attends PS 195 in New York City.

Slade decided he wanted to do something different when he heard about the contest, according to an article on Yahoo.com.

He chose the issue of gay marriage after seeing the president come out in support.

The school told him he couldn't give the speech because it was worried the speech was inappropriate for fellow students.

He was eventually allowed to give his speech, but only in front of his fellow 5th graders, and not for the competition. Read more.

What do you think of the school's decision?
