You may not know what happens behind the counters and inside the kitchens of your favorite restaurants unless you're in the action, but a group of servers gave up some secrets of dining out to Reader's Digest.
Are you a fan of breakfast or even breakfast for dinner?
According to Reader's Digest, servers admitted that 99 percent of the time, the bulk pan of eggs is made from powder and late-night coffee lovers are more likely to get decaffeinated coffee just because they don't want to clean out different pots. If you want skim milk, you're probably getting whatever they have in stock.
What goes into your food may not be up to your standards either- even if you ask.
Vegetarians asking for vegetable broth in a menu item may be told that it's vegetarian, regardless of whether or not it actually is. Likewise, soup of the day specials probably contain food that they're trying to use up and lemons in your drinks probably aren't washed.
If you ask for something homemade, your idea of "homemade" is probably much different from theirs.
Aside from cringe-worthy food secrets, some servers have noticed social secrets as well.
If your server doesn't like you, they may pretend that your credit card didn't authorize just to embarrass you in front of your dinner guest, according to one server.
Servers say you're also more likely nicer to the serving staff if you aren't with your husband or wife because they too know that you aren't with your significant other.
On the other hand, not everything these servers spilled to Reader's Digest is negative.
If you're wanting to become a regular at a particular dining spot, one server says to dine there between Monday and Wednesday when you're more likely to be recognized.
Staying clear of restaurants that get busy on holiday's is probably smart, too. The busier the restaurant, the less attention staff is going to be able to devote to your table.
