Report: Joshua D. Shelton turns off power causing death of nearly 70,000 chickens

A man is accused of causing the deaths of nearly 70,000 chickens after turning off power at a Maryland poultry farm while drunk, according to a Tuesday report.

NBCNews.com said 21-year-old Joshua D. Shelton was discovered by the property owner passed out on the floor of a power control shed in a pool of his own urine.

The owner, who told officials the chickens will start to die within 15 minutes without power, reportedly found the birds Saturday morning.

Shelton said he last remembered being on the property after a concert in the area, according to the article.

He was reportedly charged with second-degree burglary, trespass and malicious destruction of property. Read more.
