Baby bear breaks into Colorado candy store

ESTES PARK, CO - A Colorado candy shop owner was in for a big surprise after a culprit came in and ate the treats inside, but after reviewing the security tapes, it wasn’t who she expected.

According to Estes Park News, Jo Adams, the owner of the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Estes Park, thought that the few candy traces on the ground were the workings of a small critter that had forged its way inside overnight.

Her and her son cleaned up the store and looked on surveillance cameras they recently had installed, and noticed that the chocolate-craving culprit was a young black bear.

The surveillance video shows the baby bear opening the door to the shop, examining all of the delicious candy and taking the chocolate out of the display cases.

They report that the bear made himself at home, going in and out of the store various times over the course of about 20 minutes.

Luckily the baby bear didn’t disturb much in the store, aside from having more than his fair share of chocolate.

He meandered across the counters and pawed the cases gently, taking in the sights and smells of the tasty store.

According to Estes Park News, “the bear’s favorite things were the chocolate covered Rice Krispie Treats, peanut butter cups, a special Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory treat nicknamed Balls of Joy, some English Toffee and no surprise here, giant chocolate covered cookies called Cookie Bears!”

The store reopened after many hours of cleaning, disinfecting and throwing out anything the bear was in contact with.

Adams told Estes Park News that customers have been coming in ordering the candy the bear ate and that they have stayed busier after the bear incident.

The bear reportedly entered the store because of a faulty lock that didn’t latch, allowing him room to slip his paw inside.

Muddy footprints were found the next day after the locks had been replaced, showing signs that the sweet-toothed, baby bear had been back.
