In direct response to Mike Huckabee’s Chick-fil-A day supporting traditional marriage, one organization is hoping to celebrate National Marriage Equality Day.
Equally Wed, a premier online gay wedding website, has renamed August 7 National Marriage Equality Day.
To celebrate the holiday, they are asking supporters to take creative photos of their support for marriage equality to be entered into a contest for prizes.
Photos and supportive messages have already been flooding their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
More importantly, they’re hoping to educate citizens on the companies and organizations that are also in the fight for marriage equality.
According to their website, their original idea was to support Starbucks for their stance on equality and community support, but they expanded the idea to include other companies and non-profit organizations.
They say that they decided to expand on their original idea because they received “direct encouragement of Starbucks Corporate Headquarters who wanted other equally-minded companies and organizations to share in the appreciation.”
Some of those companies include Abercrombie & Fitch, Apple, Best Buy, Disney, Macy’s, Nike, Southwest Airlines and Tiffany & Co., though the list is much longer.
Equally Wed hopes consumers will spend their money wisely on National Marriage Equality Day in support of the companies supporting gay rights.
