A woman has destroyed a 19th century fresco by Spanish painter Elias Garcia Martinez, according to a Wednesday report.

The UK’s Independent said Martinez’s granddaughter donated “Ecce Homo” to the Centro de Estudios Borjanos in Spain, which keeps an archive of religious artwork.

An elderly woman reportedly wanted to repair the piece.

She attempted to restore the image without permission and reported the damage after she realized it got out of hand, according to the article.

Three photos show the image in 2010, last month, and after the attempted restoration.

The first shows the face of Jesus and the crown of thorns, but the second has white speckles all over it, as if the woman tried to remove some paint, according to Yahoo.com .

The third photo shows paint covering the face and the crown of thorns and the image is nearly unrecognizable.  See the photos and read more.
