NEW YORK - A pit bull saved its owner from her burning home in Long Island on Friday while the woman was drying her hair.
Jackie Bonasera escaped the burning home after her pit bull, named Cain, barked to alert her as flames spread from the front to the back of her house, reported WNBC. After she escaped, she ran back in and rescued Cain, who had stayed inside.
Bonasera said she would have been trapped upstairs if Cain hadn’t alerted her to the fire. It took more than 70 firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
Bonasera’s daughter, Alexus Stallworth, said Cain is “the town hero,” and that despite pit bulls’ bad reputations, “he’s such a good boy.”
The cause of the fire is unknown, and the arson squad is investigating, but police don’t believe it’s suspicious.
