Oops! Old Navy shirt names Houston Texans 1961 AFC Champions

An Old Navy shirt is getting some attention this week for apparently giving a 1961 championship to a team that didn’t exist in a conference that also didn’t exist at the time.

Yahoo.com posted a photo of the shirt which states, “Houston Texans 1961 AFC Champions.”

The article explains that the Dallas Texans were second the AFL West division behind the San Diego Chargers.

The Chargers reportedly lost the AFL championship in 1961 to the Houston Oilers. 

The Houston Oilers nabbed the 1961 championship while the article said the Dallas Texans got a 1962 championship.

The AFC on Old Navy’s shirt, or the American Football Conference, reportedly didn’t exist until the AFL and NFL joined in 1970. Read more .
