A Minnesota runner is getting attention Thursday after he carried an injured rival from a different school for a half mile to help during a race.

An article on Yahoo.com says Josh Ripley was on a trail during a recent cross country meet when he heard a scream from Mark Paulauska, who had a bloody ankle.

Other runners continued on the race, but Ripley reportedly carried Paulauska a half mile back to coaches and family.

Doctors later determined Paulauska needed 20 stitches after he was spiked by another runner’s shoe, according to the article. He also reportedly needed a walking boot to protect the wound.

Ripley then continued on and finished the race. Read more about this story.
