A northern California woman is getting attention Monday after discovering a meteor chunk in her backyard over the weekend.

NBCNews.com said San Francisco Bay Area resident Lisa Webber heard a strange noise last Wednesday when a meteor flew across the sky, but she thought it was an animal.

Webber reportedly read an article about the meteorite and spotted a 2-inch rock in her yard on Saturday.

A neighbor’s son took a magnet to the rock and the two stuck to each other, according to the article.

The report said a chunk of meteorite also left a dent in her roof, but no injuries were reported.

SETI Institute investigators said the rock was authentic. They reportedly hope to trace it back to its origins in the asteroid belt.  Read more on NBCNews.com .
