Donna and George Lewis' doorstop turns out to be 4 billion-year-old meteorite

A family discovered and object they have used as a doorstop and a garden ornament is a 4 billion-year-old meteorite, according to a Monday article.

Yahoo.com said Donna Lewis’ grandfather found the rock in a pasture in Tazewell, Tennessee in the 1930s.

The 33-pound rock has even been painted green, but Donna and George Lewis reportedly learned the rock was unique when George put a metal detector up to it.

Tests were done at the University of Tennessee, which determined the rock was most likely part of a meteorite strike that first turned up evidence in Tazewell in 1853, according to Yahoo.com.

Eastern Kentucky University bought the meteorite, which will be on display.  Read more on Yahoo.com.
