Dad rejects Make-A-Wish trip for daughter McKenna May

The mother and grandmother of an Ohio girl who survived leukemia are trying to raise money to take her to Disney World after her father rejected a trip from Make-A-Wish, according to a Wednesday report.

An article on Yahoo.com reports William May, 4-year-old McKenna May’s father, said accepting a Make-A-Wish trip would be improper use of donations made to the organization since McKenna is free and clear of illness.

He apparently said it should go to children who have months to live.

Whitney Hughes and Lori Helppie, McKenna’s mother and grandmother, think she deserves the trip after enduring two years of treatment, according to the article.

Make-A-Wish reportedly requires parents to sign off for their child to accept a trip.

A Make-A-Wish official said McKenna qualifies for a wish since she has gone through a lot in her battle with leukemia, according to the article.

Yahoo.com said Hughes and Helppie placed collection jars around their neighborhood to raise $3,500 for a Disney trip. Read more.
