Ten former black “American Idol” contestants are suing the show for $25 million each on claims that they were exploited for ratings and unjustly kicked off the show because of their race, according to TMZ .
The contestants, all from various seasons, have accused producers of conducting “cruel and inhumane” schemes to humiliate them by airing their arrest histories for charges they were never convicted of.
The lawyer representing the 10 is also claiming that only black contestants were probed about their criminal past, making them appear to be “violent criminals, liars and sexual deviants.”
In addition to suing for discrimination and other alleged breaches of law, the 10 are also asking Idol to adopt new anti-racism regulations, claiming their lives have been ruined by the show’s racist portrayals.
