PHOENIX - The social-networking site Twitter claimed another life Tuesday when it “killed” rock legend Mick Jagger.
Trending on the site this morning was the phrase “RIP Mick Jagger,” but the Rolling Stone has in fact not passed away.
The Washington Post reports that the trend appears to have started after Jagger’s appearance at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, when a radio disk jockey cracked a joke about Jagger’s age.
News, fake or not, travels fast on Twitter, and the topic began to trend.
Jagger is not the first celebrity “slain” by Twitter; he joins the ranks of Justin Bieber, Aretha Franklin and Charlie Sheen.
Jagger, still very much alive, launched his new website Tuesday.
