PHOENIX - It isn’t always the big events that make us turn our head when we hear about politicians, celebrities and athletes.

Sometimes, we just want to know that when you boil it down, they’re all people like us.

What's in their fridge? What are they reading? What do they do in their off time?

Each Tuesday, ABC15.com is asking 10 questions of an Arizona leader or celebrity.

But don't jump to any conclusions. These aren't the typical interview questions.

Instead, they're questions that let you get to know the person – in ways you probably don’t already.

In this week's article, we're hearing from Phoenix City Councilman Michael Johnson.

Johnson began his third four-year term on the Phoenix City Council in January 2010, representing District 8, which encompasses central, east and southeast Phoenix.

Johnson retired from the Phoenix Police Department in 1995 as a homicide investigator, after a 21-year career with the department. He served as a community liaison for the Phoenix Police Department and was named Detective of the Year in 1992.

Johnson declined to comment on an investigation surrounding a recent altercation with a Phoenix police officer.  In March, Johnson said he was trying to assist a neighbor whose house was on fire when he was thrown to the ground and handcuffed. Phoenix police officers are investigating.

Johnson did share he loves serving his Valley community and has but one regret.  Read more:
