PHOENIX - It can really break the bank getting even half of the stuff on kids' school supply lists.
So I’ve been shopping for about two weeks to see which stores are going to save you the most on school supplies.
You can find the items at most stores all over the Valley, but the prices are far from the same.
We took a list of items we found on back to school lists from different grades.
We shopped at Office Max, Staples, Target and Walmart and boy, did we find a huge difference in cost.
12-PACK OF CRAYOLA COLORED PENCILS
Right away, Walmart takes the lead charging 97 cents for the pack.
Target is right behind them charging just 2 cents more at 99 cents.
Office Max charges more than double that price at $2.
And even more at Staples at $2.99 for the same pack of colored pencils.
ELMERS WASHABLE GLUE
Target and Walmart ties for first charging 50 cents for a four ounce bottle.
Staples will cost you about three times that amount at $1.49.
This time Office Max gets last; their cost was $2.99 for the same bottle.
That's enough to get six bottles at Target or Walmart.
BLACK AND WHITE COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK
Again Walmart and Target kills the competition charging 50 cents.
You'll pay three times that amount at Office Max at $1.50.
Even more at Staples at $2.49.
-----------
Overall, the theme stayed the same for pretty much everything on our list.
Walmart won overall on most items, with Target a close second.
Both stores also had the most variety.
Staples was the most expensive for the items we checked.
And we had a harder time finding everything on our list at both Staples and Office Max since there wasn’t a specific area dedicated to school supplies.
