Which home improvement store do you think has the best prices between Home Depot and Lowe's?

We shopped aisle after aisle to see which store will save you the most.

We compared the prices of 20 items, big and small, online and in the store.

Let's start outdoors.

Nearly every home needs a water hose, but you don't have to pay big bucks for it.

Both Home Depot and Lowe's had a similar, black, 50-foot hose.

Home Depot charges $28.97.

It's $4 cheaper at Lowe's for the same type of water hose.

Next on our list is Ortho Weed B Gone.

You'll pay $12.97 at Lowe's for a 32-ounce bottle.

It's $3 cheaper at Home Depot at $9.77.

But not so fast!

We dug a little deeper and found that same bottle of Ortho Weed B Gone for even less at Wal-Mart, $9.47.

Back at the home improvement stores we compared cleaning supplies like Simple Green, Lime Away, Fabuloso and Tide with Febreze.

For each item Home Depot had the best prices, you'll save $1 there on laundry detergent.

We shopped online for a Hunter ceiling fan.

Lowe's charges about $193 and they'll ship the fan to the store nearest you.

Home Depot doesn't offer the ship to store option for this item, but it will ship to your house and it's cheaper.

It is $186 for the same fan, which is a savings of $8.

We checked some more and neither store had the best deal.

Sears.com will save you $50 bucks.

Amazon.com will save you about $70 for the same fan and that includes shipping!

Home Depot and Lowe's both sell the same GE fridge online for the same price of $1799.

Sears charges about $100 dollars more than the home improvement stores and Best Buy is even more expensive at about $2000.

Another online retailer, Usappliance.com , beats the competition charging $200 less for the same GE fridge.

Back in the stores, Home Depot has a Martha Stewart nine cube organizer for $39.98.

Lowe's carries the same size organizer in the Closet Maid brand and charges about $5 more.

Overall, we found Home Depot had lower prices on the items we compared.

From my personal shopping experience, I find it easier to get help whenever I visit Lowe's.

Either way, regardless of where you shop, check online before you head to the store.

Also, call your favorite store for prices, since both Lowe's and Home Depot will price match identical items.
