3 apps to help you get the best deals

You don't have to memorize prices to know if you're getting a good deal.

There are several apps that will do the price checking for you, and that means you should never pay too much for anything.

We tested the top price comparison apps to see if they would really save us any cash.

Our contenders -- Google Shopper , the Amazon Price Checker and RedLaser .

All three of the apps allow you to scan items and speak to them.

So we went shopping.

First we checked the price of a Remington Ceramic Blow Dryer .

The price at Target is $35.99.

But according to all three of our price compare apps, that's not the best deal.

RedLaser found the same dryer for $30, a dollar cheaper with the Price Check app and Google Shopper found the same blow dryer at several online stores for $27.

Next on our shopping list, a coffee maker .

And this time, the best deal was right in front of us.

It cost $79.99 at Target.

Google Shopper found the same price online, but you'd have to pay shipping.

And our other two apps, Price Check and RedLaser, couldn't find the coffee maker.

It wouldn't scan with Price Check and RedLaser scanned it just fine but found no results.

Finally, a Sony portable DVD player .

The cost was $105 at Target.

We saved $30 using our price compare apps! All three found the same DVD player for $75, plus free shipping.

Overall, I found the Google Shopper to be the easiest to use.

It scanned most of our products easily and found the items really quick.

RedLaser was my least favorite because I had such a hard time scanning.

Apparently I wasn't holding my phone steady enough.
