You don't need a personal trainer to get in shape, just use your smartphone!
Think about it, it's the perfect tool.
It's always with you, it lets you listen to music during your workout and there are several free apps to help you stay on track.
My Fitness Pal is a great tool to help you set weight-loss goals and see your progress. It even tracks your calories and how often you exercise.
Here's how it works. Fill in your personal information including how much you weigh and how much you want to lose and start logging your food and exercise.
The app lets you choose how fast you want to lose the weight and your maximum calories to get to that goal.
And if snacks are your problem, try the Fooducate app.
It lets you scan the UPC code of your favorite foods and tells you way more than how many calories you're getting.
The app tells you the good and bad things about the food, even things that some companies may not want you to know. Like if you're getting too much sugar, or if the food has genetically modified organisms. It also offers alternative options for those munchies.
Another app I love is called JEFIT .
This app helps you find exercises for every part of your body and keeps track of your workouts.
All you have to do is choose the part of your body you'd like to work on, and tons of exercises pop up.
Simply choose the ones you want to do, add it to your routine and you're ready to go.
Another popular app is called Gym Pact .
It sort of guilts you into following through on your goals by charging you.
Here’s how it works: You make a pact of how many days you’ll work out, and how much you’ll pay every time you miss your workout. The least amount you can stake is $5 per day.
There’s no getting out of paying the money for missed days.
In order to sign up, you have to enter your credit card information.
Also, you can’t just say you worked out. You have to prove it. If you’re a runner, your run has to be GPS-verified. If you go to the gym, you have to check in.
The best part is, you can make money just for completing your workouts.
The money from those who don’t meet their goals are pooled and split among those who do follow through.
Now if that doesn’t motivate you to workout, I don’t know what will.
If you like running, try the MapMyRun app.
It allows you to track and map your runs via GPS. I've actually used the app to help me stay on the right path when running.
The app also lets you share your runs online with friends. You can play music while the app is running. Even more, the app lets you put in your daily nutrition as well.
