One school's trash could be your treasure.
All of the equipment from ASU campuses that is no longer being used or needed goes to their ASU Surplus store. The store is located near Rio Salado Parkway and the 101 in Tempe.
They sell lots of used furniture like desks, chairs, file cabinets and even chalk boards. Plus you can find older computer equipment like desktop computers and LCD monitors. Plus they sell bikes and every computer cord you can possibly think of.
All of the items are used. Some items are in bad shape and other items (with a little elbow grease) can be fixed.
There were a few things that caught my eye that I thought where priced right.
For example, they had some nice office chairs with the upholstery intact priced at $15. They had a lot of large used file cabinets for around $30. They were on sale for 50% off the day I went so the final cost was just $15.
Some of the bikes were priced right. For example, they had a used Phat cruiser with a basket in good condition for $55. Personally, I thought the other bikes were a little pricey.
In addition, you can always find something unique at the ASU Surplus store. Last time I was there I found a giant telescope.
The best deal I found when I went was used file folders. The store was selling 25 folders for just $1.
So if you are handy and like to tinker with things, you might find a treasure for cheap at this store.
Plus they sell a lot of large equipment like cars and copiers. The list goes on, but those items are sold at their monthly auctions.
The next auction will be October 10 at 8:30 a.m. Public auctions are held on the second Thursday of every month.
